Nobody Sneeze!

Thoughts and Things: I began decorating for halloween yesterday, trying to beat the storm that was fast approaching. I painted the tree and moon on my pumpkins, stacked them up and set them on the porch.

About 3:30 a.m. I woke up to the sound of a heavy rain storm. I thought to myself that black craft paint and water don't mix very well, and went back to sleep. I woke up this morning, went out on my porch to check my simple art work to find most of it washed off.

Painted them again today.

Note to self: Duh!

Gracie and Hannah
Thoughts and Things: Initial pins made out of my wool scraps for my little granddaughters.
I wish I could get away with wearing one.

Monday Quilt Day
Thoughts and Things: On a 92 degree day it just doesn't seem appropriate to show a halloween quilt, but October will be here in just a few days!

Fall Splendor

Thoughts and Things: We had a beautiful drive out to the cabin. The mountains seemed as if they were on fire with all the trees changing colors. It was an incredible sight.

The mornings are relaxing.

The nights are cool and quiet.

Time seems to pass by so quickly while we are there.
Time to return home.

good intentionsThoughts about things: Wednesday night was the night. The night set aside for girls craft night.
After a quick trip to the instacare for stitches in the back of my grandsons head, convincing my youngest daughter that she DOES like to craft and she WILL have fun, stopping to nurse baby Charlie (not me personally-HA!) and changing two diapers, we finally got started on our halloween garland.
The actual time we started was 9:15, by 10:00 we were all tired and realized that our garland would NOT be finished.
We had good intentions.
Looks like mom (me) will be finishing them up.
stay tuned...

put another blanket on

Thoughts: Before I left for college, my mother made my roommate and I matching quilts for our beds. The tied, pink gingham checked quilts made our dorm room cute and cozy, a meeting place for all the girls on our floor at Deseret Towers.(BYU)

My hubby and I have had it on our bed every fall and winter since we got married. The yarn is unraveling and the fabric is becoming so thin. Actually, just making it softer.

Last night with my hubby working out of town and the cool fall temperatures, I put it on my bed, snuggled up and thought of my hubby and my college days.

Things: I bought this orange plaid wool blanket at a second hand store. I have cut it up and used it in many sewing projects.

Monday Quilt Day

Thoughts about things: Collecting fabric and sewing are two different hobbies.
Any of you who do one or both of these things know exactly what I mean.

Squirrel it away

Thoughts: I have watched the little squirrels scurry about collecting the acorns as they fall from the oak trees. Each mouthful helps to fill up their little homes for the long winter to come.

Things: Growing up with 5 brothers and sisters meant we were always running out of toilet paper. Between the time we ran out and my mother getting to the store (if she had the money), she would get out a stack of the ZEE napkins from the kitchen and put them on the back of the toilet. Pink, yellow, blue was your choice of colors to get the job done.

Needless to say, I have a hang up about toilet paper. Ever since I got married I have been obsessed with always having enough around the house. In the closets, under the beds, in the bathroom cabinets, in my food storage in the basement.

I squirrel it away every chance I can get. You know where to come if you run out. I'd be happy to share a roll or two.
What do you squirrel away?

just relax
Thoughts: The time to relax is when you don't have time for it.

One of my favorite spots to relax is in the rocking chair next to the window. I always leave a hand sewing project sitting there to give me incentive to complete whatever needs to be done and then take some time out my day and just relax. Even if it's just for a few minutes.

Things: One of project in the works is a christmas quilt for my table. It has 4 large blocks with needle turned baskets. I will show you the results, hopefully sooner than later.

Some of the fabrics used in the quilt.

wash dry wear repeat
Thoughts: Even though doing the laundry is a never ending task, it is one of my favorite household chores to do.
Actually, it has been one of my greatest accomplishments in my life.
For sometime I have thought about sharing with you my story, my illness, and the miracles.
But today, let's just talk laundry.
After I had learned to walk on my own again, without assistance and regained some strength, I walked from my bedroom, oxygen tank in hand, down the hallway into the laundry room.
I carried the small load of fresh smelling clothes back to my bedroom, sat down and slowly folded each piece.
My hubby and I cried, we had worked so hard to get me to that point.
Doing the laundry everyday is a blessing.

Things:
My small antique clothes line hangs in my kitchen and holds some of my favorite kitchen towels.

Time to Sew
Thoughts and Things: Driving 22 hours this past weekend gave me plenty of time to sew and work on projects.

With halloween just around the corner, this was a good time to get a start on the projects I wanted to make.

Every year I tell myself - No more halloween decorations! But I just can't resist!

With a square of black wool, halloween fabric and a pair of scissors, this black crow pillow was the result. It is also helpful to have a hubby as an artist who drew the crow.

Hey - Moe Monster!
Get out of the picture!

Monday Quilt DayThoughts and Things: This quilt pattern is called
"Postage Stamp".
It is a great way to use up your scraps.
This quilt is made with 2" x 2" squares.

We had a great time in San Fransisco. We did plenty of shopping and sightseeing. We ate our way through the city especially the sourdough bread, YUM! We met some new friends too, at pier 39.

The weather was nice the first day we were there, and the rest of the days, well... let me quote Mark Twain.

"The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Fransisco."

Moe Monster

Thoughts and things:
San Fransisco is our destination as my hubby and I head off on a road trip.
Moe Monster will stand guard.
Home

Can't stop the feeling anymore...
Thoughts: With the waning days of summer, my mind has fall project ideas bouncing around.
I just can't stop the feeling anymore.
My plan is to cherish these last days of summer while working on my fall projects. Good enough!

Things: This little sunflower is made out of wool. The center is a brown pom-pom trimmed and shaped to fit. Yellow glass ball pins make the yellow centers.
